I love doing the Lamp project with my 7th grade students. It's their creativity and I've never had ant two lamps look alike. There arte many styles to come up with. I use the basic wood block base, as well as the Shadow box style.

Hello all, It's been some time since I've posted to this site. I hope you all are doing well!
I have the luxury of having a CNC, 3D printers, vinyl graphics and a laser engraver. As a lesson/project for my middle school students I want to have them design/modify their own board games. They can use vinyl graphic material, 3D print playing pieces, laser etch wood parts, etc.
Has anyone done something like this? Can you share your experiences? I would also like input as to how you developed a rubric for this type of project.

Topic: Project ideas for 5th graders??

I need some new ideas for projects for 5th graders. I'm trying to stay away from the scroll saws as a few of them this year have gotten some small cuts.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Great Job Mr. Kuhn!

I've used your casserole plans in the past. I really like the nut cracker plan.....

I have plans for a 12'/14' kayak. They are built with stringers and overlaid with canvas and two coats of latex paint. The blueprint type plan is quite large so I cannot email. PM me and we can discuss a copy printed and mailed...

I have used the floor sander method as well. My benches were in really bad shape including the vises. I removed the vises and pushed all the benches together to sand them.
I bought from Delvies Inc. a 2 part 50/50 epoxy finsh. It's like 50 coat of varnish. Then like someone mentioned, apply wax and the glue peels right off.
I did this during the summer. I bought the 2 gallon kit and did 4 benches, and 3 counters and still have enough left over for touch-ups when needed.

If anyone is interested in having their students make musical instruments, let me know. I have been making them with students for years and have had success with them as young as 7th and 8th grade.

I make whistles with my middle school students, but any information you have on music instruments would be greatly appreciated.
