It's a long and involved story but our school board just doesn't want to negotiate with the union. They imposed their best and final offer after rejecting the fact finding report. Look for Capistrano Unified in the news tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Good luck When unions started times were tough and strikes were a way to make a difference.

Here's our numbers from today's Strike.
90% of the teachers reported to the picket lines.
Attendance:
52 percent of elementary students didn't come to school.
59 percent of middle school students didn't come to school.
73 percent of high school students didn't come to school.

Also today for the first time in over 6 months our union reps and then board went back to the table to negotiate. Nothing was settled today so we will still be on strike tomorrow but they are going to resume their talks tomorrow. At least we now have some communication with our school board. It's is definitely a step in the right direction. Here's a news articleabout the events of the day: http://www.ocregister.com/news/teachers-245505-school-students.html
Here's to hoping things can get settled tomorrow and we'll be back to work on Monday.

Thanks to everybody for your well wishes and especially to Jeff. I just emailed you at your aol address.

Sorry to hear that it's gotten to that point.

Stay strong, and keep the faith.

They can't replace us.

They may bring in scabs, but really.....what quality of education will be happening in those classrooms with 3rd rate teachers?

At some point the kids will vote with their feet, and the district will be forced to negotiate.

Quality education doesn't come cheaply from "any guy can do this job"
personnel.

For the record, my wife's district just agreed to a 3% raise next year. (Oregon)

Bless you!

Our union were in talks with the board for 6 and half hours on Saturday and 8 and half hours on Sunday. Today, Monday, we are back on the picket line because they couldn't dome to an agreement. They are scheduled for more talks today.

We haven't gotten the final details on everything that's in the contract. The main thing we wanted was to sit down and negotiate with our school board. That hasn't happen since last June. The 10% pay cut is still in place but it is now temporary with the ability to restore those cuts if more money comes in.

Click HERE for the details so far.
