I have a decent budget and good support so far but I'd like to pursue some stuff with a more popular appeal for visibility so I'm thinking of pen lathes or cnc of some sort. We all know EVERY job in the world will require sustained and extensive computer skills is the motivator for cnc and pen lathes produce pretty neat projects quickly and cheaply.
Those are two areas I'm considering but I would like any general advice on grants and the process anyone has to offer. 21st century learner suggestions too if you have them as it relates to tooling and projects. I teach 6-8. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest a ShopBot Desktop or a ShopBot Buddy, depending upon your budget and how much space you have.

The machines have a number of add ons that make the machine more usable for things like printing and vinyl signs.
If you can afford the alpha, it is worth the money. It is quieter than a router and you can then cut soft metals like aluminum.
