I just finished teaching the one semester that our high school offers woodshop, but I am figuring out projects and what wood to order for next year. I would like students to make some project(s) that could be distributed in the community.

Do any of you have favorite projects (and plans) your students make (toys, rocking horses, benches, etc.) to give away or for fundraising that you can recommend?

We make a lot of mostly smaller things...cutting boards, pens, fancy doorstops, block sets, games, puzzles, etc. and sell them through local stores at a 'profit' ($5 max).
That money is donated to our local Boys and Girls Club.

Wood magazine had plans for a rocking horse several years ago. Students built several of them and then the art students did some very creative paint jobs. Dontated to various charities for auction items. One sold for 165 and the other for 185.

I took my kids to Maker Faire!

I also put on woodworking classes in community shops and often bring my students as teaching assistants. A bit more work for me, but the students (both adult and kid) have a blast.
