Anyone have any experience with the 20" Powermatic Planer (Planer: 209HH-3 20" Planer, 5HP 3PH 230/460V, Byrd SHELIX Head)
or 8" Jointer (Jointer: PJ-882HH 8" Parallelogram Jointer, 2HP 1PH 230V, Helical Cutterhead) looking at reliability and ease of high school student use.
Thanks

We have the 8" jointer with the helical head and I could not recommend it highly enough. Also retrofitted an older planer some time ago at another school with a helical head. This is the way to go in my humble opinion. The helical heads cut cleaner, quieter and blade nicks can be remedied by a simple cutter insert rotation. The above is saying quite a lot especially since I am not a big fan of PowerMatic equipment overall.
Hope this helps you.
