In the middle of March this year, a local school district had a 6 million dollar lawsuit filed against them for NOT having SawStop tablesaws after a student injury. The word is out in the legal circles.

Even though I am out of the teaching business, I still check in weekly.

I would give a simple math test with about 15 fractional questions on the first day of class. It did scare some kids out of the class but it was the kind of math used everyday in and out of the classroom. I then gave the same test at the end of the semester and compared results. The test was so easy and the first results were so bad that it got admins attention.

This year the weightlifting class had 5 pukings, one broken finger, 22 stitches, and bruised orbital muscle. Woodshop had a paper cut and 2 slivers.

Tom I wouldn't worry about being up-to-date. Old projects work just as well. I have some of my handtool projects posted on:

I have come up with some different ones but just need to time to get them "share-able"
Good luck with your new job.

A simple google search of "teaching jobs in Florida" provided many results. It's cold, windy and starting to snow here so you may have some competition...(grin)

Wood magazine had plans for a rocking horse several years ago. Students built several of them and then the art students did some very creative paint jobs. Dontated to various charities for auction items. One sold for 165 and the other for 185.

Most companies (Murphy Rogers or Sternvent) can tell you what volume you will need based on equipment and length of ducting. A automatic shaker is a good option that will improve collection. If you are going to have a return air make sure you check with your local fire department as code for these has become much more stringent. Since you are in Santa Cruz a return system may not be worth it. Find one with enough room for a dumpster to collect the wood waste. I used to have one with barrels and my classroom recieved no custodial care and dumping the barrels was a bit of a chore.
